This is a William IV era Officer's helmet of the 3rd or Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guard. The skull and peaks are gilt metal with a tall gilt metal comb with floral scroll decorations. On top of the comb is a horsehair crest with the front bound in a bristle and the rear in a flowing mane. The rayed plate has the King's crown at the top, The Royal Arms of Britain in the center with 4 battle honors and thistle sprays. There is a band across the top of the front peak marked "3rd or PRINCE of WALESS DRAGn GUARDS". Large Tudor rose ear bosses suspend velvet backed gilt chin scales. The peaks are lined with skived leather and there is a red leather sweat band.

Condition: Very good, the skull and peaks show some light wear and a few very minor scratches. The comb has cracks. The horsehair plume has some breakage and lost strands. The ear bosses show some wear. The sweat band is cracked and has become partially unstitched. This is a very good example of an early Dragoon Guard Officer's helmet.
