The roman legion soldier stands in full ancient regalia. Upon his head he wears a galea which was a soldiers helmet made of bronze. He wears a metal armor around his torso over the knee-length tunic. A paludamentum falls down his back, which is a cloak fastened to the shoulders usually worn by military commanders. At his feet are caligae which were heavy-soled sandals. His right hand holds a spear against the ground as he looks far off into the distance. The bronze sculpture was molded using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a green patina finish for preservation. It is mounted upon a variegated black marble base.
