Documented Deluxe Winchester Second Model 1876 Lever Action Sporting Rifle
According to the included factory letter, this rifle was received at and shipped from the Winchester warehouse on December 18, 1880. The letter confirms the caliber, barrel, trigger, rear sight, stock and receiver. Globe front and adjustable sporting rear sights, with the top flat marked "WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN, CT./ KING'S IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860" ahead of the rear sight and "CAL. 45-60" at the breech. Casehardened receiver, with the Second Model screw-mounted dust cover rail, "45-60" on the elevator and "Model 1876" on the upper tang. Mounted with checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with an iron forend cap and crescent buttplate with compartment and cleaning rod. Underneath the metal, the wood is stamped with "XXX", denoting the wood quality, and assembly numbered "1154" to match the buttplate.

Condition: Fine, with a mixed brown patina on the barrel and magazine tube, and a smooth mottled gray on the receiver, lever and buttplate, with some scattered traces of the original faded case colors. The wood is very good with some heavy wear to the checkering on the forearm and minor on the stock wrist. Overall there are a few minor dings and dents. At least 50% of the varnish remains on the stock while the forearm has a hand rubbed patina. Clear markings. Mechanically fine.
