Django Unchained Jamie Foxx Hero Black Powder Gun
Quentin Tarantino fulfilled a life-long dream to direct a western with his box office smash hit and critically acclaimed, if not highly controversial "Django Unchained" (2012). Jamie Foxx plays a freed slave in the late 1800's who, with the help of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz), sets out to free his wife who is "imprisoned" by a crazed Mississippi plantation owner. Tarantino wanted both extreme accuracy, and as is his style, some 'creative" license in every detail of this film. Since guns were such an important part of the plot, he enlisted the help of legendary gun master, trainer and armorer Thell Reed to supervise all aspects of weaponry. This is one of the last weapons used in the film. It is a 1858 Remington Cap and Ball pistol with the original 8" barrel. Used in the film by several other characters, it was finally used by Jamie himself in the final battle. To differentiate it from other guns, Tarantino wanted the final gun's frame to be made of brass. However Remington's were never made of such a metal, so Mr. Reed had it painted "brass" by the production set artist. A special hammer was also constructed by Mr. Reed, to that the gun could be "fanned" by Jamie Foxx, however after extensive use, and right before the "big scene", the hammer broke, and Mr. Reed had to have an emergency weld. This crude but very strong weld can be seen on the extra long hammer. The gun also has extra significance since Jamie uses it to shoot dead a group of Australian guards during an escape near the end of the movie, including one played by Tarantino himself! it also has the distinction of being the weapon to fire the very last shot in the movie. This Hero used gun comes with a special Certificate of Authenticity signed by Thell Reed. Since it is a "cap and ball" pistol, no special handling or FFL license is required. Special note: sans any last minute commitments, Thell Reed will be at the live auction to answer any and all questions!
