This is a very good example of an early prewar Nazi Luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory in 1936. This was the third year of regular Mauser Luger production and the first production year to use the full date on top of the chamber area in lieu of the secret letter/date code markings. Although a standard production model this series of Luger is very difficult to find in original unaltered condition as they saw considerable use during the early pre-war years and many thousands went into Russia in 1942 and never returned. The top of the chamber has the full date of "1936", with the correct "S/42" code marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/63'' Waffenamt proofs, next to the single droop wing eagle firing proof, both of which are also stamped on the top rear portion of the barrel. The right side of the breechblock, also has the single eagle firing proof. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" markings on the safety and extractor. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips, with a matching brown color on both sides and is complete with two magazines; both are early type 1 Army magazines with the nickel plated bodies with the aluminum bases that are marked; "6747/h" and "9161/h" respectively and both with an "Eagle/63" acceptance proof. It is complete with one original black "1936" date luger holster. The backside is stamped "WILM BRAND/HEIDELBERG/1936.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 4119o
Condition: Very fine with 80% of the original blue finish overall with actual finish loss on the grip straps, and center section of the barrel, as well as the edges and high spots. Straw colors remain 60% intact. The grips are also in very fine condition with one slight sliver of wood missing under the safety lever. The checkering is sharp overall with only light wear across the tops of the checkering with no cracks or damage. The holster is also in good condition, with nice tight stitching. Showing scratches and scuffs overall from actual field use, but still intact and unaltered. The markings are visible on the back. The pistol has matching numbers except the magazine and grips which are numbered 16 instead of 19. A nice example of a early prewar Mauser Luger pistol rig.
