This is a fine example of a very desirable Colt Model 1855 Military Revolving Rifle manufactured from 1856 to 1864. These rifle have a root-type side hammer, 5-shot fluted cylinder, ratchet-type loading lever and three leaf rear sight with graduations for 100, 300 and 500 yards. Front sight is machined to accept a socket bayonet. The top of the frame in the sighting grove is stamped "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is marked "COLT'S PATENT" in a curve over "NOV. 24th, 1857". The cylinder has the 1850 patent stamped on one of the flutes. Matching numbers on buttplate and frame with the iron lower tang/trigger guard renumbered to gun. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the letter "K". Full length forearm with brass tip and straight grip stock with the buttplate having a sliding trap. There is a sling swivel on the rear barrel band and a sling swivel base on the lower tang. With an iron ramrod.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 60% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is some minor pitting on the cylinder. The lightly sanded, refinished wood is fine with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
