Desirable 1908 DWM Commercial Luger Pistol
This is a very fine example of a desirable Model 1908 Commercial Luger as produced by the DWM factory. These Lugers were produced from 1908 through 1913 and were sold under both commercial and military contracts. This model of Luger can be distinguished from the later models, based on two notable features; 1) made without a hold-open catch and 2) no stock lug. The top of the chamber area is blank with the rear toggle having the DWM logo markings. The right side of the barrel extension is blank and the left side and underside of the barrel have the Commercial Crown "N" proofs. Since this is a commercial contract pistol, it is numbered in the commercial style, vs. the military fashion, consequently the various parts are marked with the full serial number (57072) only on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, with the last two digits (72) numbered on the recoil lug, the underside of the side plate, the side of the trigger, the take down lever, the lower left side of the breechblock and the very rear of the toggle. These pistols all exhibited an excellent high polish, rust blued finish with straw colors on the small parts and were fitted with checkered walnut grips. It is fitted with a correct nickel plated, wooden base magazine with no markings.
