Colt model 1908, .25 caliber, semiautomatic pistol, finely engraved in multicolored flush gold inlay with simulated floral carved black pearl grips, royal blue finish, serial number “78505”. Though unsigned, we would attribute this engraving to a European trained engraver, probably one who worked for Browning, such as Angelo Bee or Gino Carganell as it is in that style. The pistol shows full coverage, the Colt markings have been removed from the left side of the slide to allow more engraving surface. The gold line work is expertly executed and extends around the front of the slide, instrap, grip safety, rear of pistol, and a tremendous amount of gold work has been executed. The trigger is engine turned as is the breech area. The pistol shows 99.9% high polish royal blue finish. The grips are of a composite material simulating black pearl and have been engraved and blackened to accent the scroll design within the engraving. The action is good, the bore is good. The serial number itself (78505) also inlayed with gold. This pistol would be prohibitive to replace due to the amount of gold line work (estimated at $3,000 to $5,000 at today’s exchange rates).
