Manufactured in 1868, this fourth Model 1851 Colt has the late barrel marking, the "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left side of the frame, "36CAL" on the left trigger guard shoulder and the Texas-Mexico naval battle scene on the cylinder. The serial number "206778" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, in front of trigger guard and on the butt with the number "778" on the cylinder and "6778" on the cylinder pin. The wedge and loading lever are unnumbered. Fitted with a smooth walnut one-piece grip.

Condition: Very good, traces of the original blue finish remain under the loading lever with a smooth brown patina overall and some minor pitting and scattered minor dings. There is a dovetail cut near the muzzle which has been filled and fitted with a brass bead sight. The loading lever retains traces of the case colors in the protected areas with a gray patina on the balance. The nicely aged brass grip straps have traces of age darkened silver. Half of the cylinder scene remains. The slightly undersized revarnished walnut grip is also fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches with a series of 6 brass pins on the right side and a number of dings on the butt.
