This is an exceptional original Cheyenne Native American Indian beaded knife sheath and trade knife from circa 1870-1880. The sheath shows an Indian tanned Buffalo hide construction showing excellent glass trade seed beads of typical Cheyenne styling of the period in chalk white, red white heart, butterscotch yellow, and sky padre blue. The sheath also features rolled tin jingle cones and old red yarn. The trade knife shows a silver inlaid ferrule and a carved thunderbird effigy in the front grip. This is truly a superb example of an authentic 1870-1880 Cheyenne beaded piece with terrific art appeal. Provenance: This piece as pictured in the "Plains Indian Art" by F.C. Crissman publication and in the 2009 "The Mark Francis Collection of American Indian Art" on page 64 figure 110. From the Ex-collection of F.C. Crissman and Mark Francis.
