This lot offers up a set of two sand casting dies, originating from Butte MT. The set includes a large cog gear, labeled "NO. 77", and a large roller which is believed to read "Foot Valve - Mine Temps". There is other script on the roller, though it is somewhat illegible. These dies would be placed in a gating system filled with sand, removed - leaving an empty cavity for molten metal to be poured. Once your metal has cooled, you break away the sand, and are left with a complete product. The dies show good condition and are believed to originate from the late 1800's - early 1900's. The larger cog measures 17 7/8" across and 2 5/8" tall.
