You are bidding on an antique pitcher and wash basin made by Buffalo Pottery, c. 1910. Buffalo Pottery was started in Buffalo, NY by the Larkin Soap Company, also of Buffalo. In 1902, John Durrant Larkin had the idea of giving his customers pottery or china as a premium when they purchased his products by mail order or select retail stores. He opened Buffalo Pottery to make the premiums. In addition to the soap dish premiums, Buffalo Pottery made pottery from dinnerware to pitchers and washbasins, like the set up for auction here. The pattern name for this set is "Cairo"; the pattern was made from 1905-1916. It features a yellow and pink rose motif with scalloped gold trim. The basin is 16.5" in diameter, while the pitcher is 12" tall; both are marked "Buffalo Pottery" on the bottom and have the buffalo logo. The pitcher is in excellent condition with excellent paint and no damage. The basin has large cracks and chips, but is in one piece.
