The reverse on this coin reads CONCORD MILITVM "the unity (or concord) of the army" Diocletian was born on December 22nd in the year 244. His family was of low status. Diocletian was a military commander. After the death of emperor Numerian, his generals and tribunes chose Diocletian as successor. Diocletian famously reformed the system of Roman coinage, as the addition of more and more base metals to silver coins let to great inflation. He also put an end to what is known as the Third Century Crisis, a period of great upheaval and civil wars. Unlike his predecessors, Diocletian voluntarily stepped down from power, and died in 311 A.D. JC-30101-97
