Ben Williams' Railroad Passes
Western Lawman and Gunfighter, his first notoriety occurred in El Paso Texas in 1890 when he was a detective. He was asked by a friend to arrange a jail escape for a William S. Bolton who was arrested in Juarez Mexico for a gunfight. Williams successfully engineered the escape from Juarez and got Dr. Bolton across the border to Texas. He then went to work as a Range Detective for the New Mexico Livestock Association and was known as "Shotgun Ben". Williams became a Deputy U,S. Marshal in 1894 as a result of a railroad strike and was sent to restore order. Williams worked under Frank W. Hall and Bat Masterson. In 1896 he was sworn in by Pat Garrett as his Chief Deputy Sheriff. This lot is a complete grouping of railroad passes that he used for his job.
