Beautifully engraved drilling rifle, 12 gauge over .38-55 caliber, 28.5” Damascus barrels (shotgun) marked “Chas Hummel & Son, San Antonio, Tex”; checkered wood stocks, checkered horn butt plate, S/N 9214, inoverall very good + condition showing the majority of Damascus pattern on shotgun barrels, crisp actions, sharp markings and fine engraving. The bores are very good to near fine and the wood is very good showingsome scattered old mars from storage; the butt plate shows some old worming. Accompanying this gun is a copy of a handwritten 3-page letter dated February 21, 1999, signed by Virginia Hicks McCormacstating in summary that this rifle was sold originally to her grandfather, F.M. Hicks II in the 1890s in San Antonio, TX by legendary arms dealer Charles Hummel. She also notes the family had a long line of successfulbusinessmen thru the generations including real estate, automobile dealerships, attorneys-at-law, and the position of Mayor of San Antonio, Marshall Hicks (1899-1901). A nice drilling rifle with classic Germanic
