Fantastic original signed pencil sketch of a collage of various views of the Beatles performing in their early days, entitled “Kaiserkeller, Hamburg, 1960,” with great images of John, Paul, George, Stuart Sutcliffe, and Pete Best on an off-white 8 x 11.5 sheet. Archivally double matted and framed to an overall size of 16.75 x 20. In fine condition.

The German-born Voormann, an artist and musician, was more accustomed to classical music than this new-fangled Rock & Roll when he stepped into the Kaiserkeller Club in Hamburg and was confronted by an up-and-coming band called the Beatles. His introduction to rock music resulted in a lifelong love for the genre, and a later meeting with the band culminated in a long-lasting friendship—one that led to his designing the cover artwork for the Fab Four’s 1966 Revolver album. Like so many people, there was something about the music—that magical Beatles music—that moved him inside and inspired him to create this sketch. A pre-Beatlemania artifact featuring oft-forgotten members Sutcliffe and Best! Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
