Siraf was an important port city on the Persian Gulf during the 9th and 10th century, until severely damaged by an earthquake about 970. The modern town is known as Taheri, but the nearby old cite of Siraf and been recently developed, under the name Bandar-e Siraf, "Port of Siraf".
