This lot features a bear skull in a shadow box with Native American Style Artwork across the entire skull. The story goes that IN the long ago time, there was a Cherokee clan called the Ani-Tsa-gu-hi (Ahni-Jah-goo-hee) in this clan was a boy who would leave home every day and venture into the mountains. His parents scolded, but the boy continued his daily quest, soon they noticed long brown hair growing all over his body and that he no longer ate their food. The boy said there is plenty of food in the woods and he doesn't have to work so hard to eat. He said he is going into the woods to stay for all time. His parents begged him not to go, but he was already changing and it was better there for him. He explained if they wanted to come with him they would have to fast for 7 days. The clan held a council all deciding to follow the boy. The clan was followed and said from now on to call them Yonva (bears). They said when you are hungry come into the woods and we will give you our flesh, be not afraid to kill us for we shall live always. Then they taught the other clans the song with which to sing before the hunt. The bear skull features several beaded images with hammered solid copper accents. The copper is thought to be spill off from the Butte Copper Mines. The skull is in good condition. It measures 5.25" x 9".
