City state, Suktimati, Vatsa / Chedi Region, Inscribed Cast Copper, 1.94g, Obv: Bull walking to left, traces of a tree to left; Brahmi legend “Sutimati” above, Rev: Elephant walking to left triangle-headed standard to left and Ujjain symbol above. Very fine, very rare.
Ancient Indian texts mention that the capital city of Chedi, a kingdom which fell roughly in the Bundelkhand division of Madhya Pradesh regions to the south of river Yamuna along the river Ken, was called Suktimati in Sanskrit and Sotthivati-nagara in Pali.
