AK - 1896 - Miscellaneous Mining Photography :
Lot of six items, including two double sided photographs, three stereoviews and one postcard. Photographs are mounted on black mattes, with photographs on both sides. Both measure 8 ½’’x 6 ¼’’. The first shows two photos of an unknown mine, perhaps in southern California. One side shows two small wooden buildings on top near a mine, while the other is of a close up of the mine itself. Medium and contrast and focus is sharp. Tears on the lower left corner and upper left edge. Second photograph shows another unknown location of a mining scene. The first is a bird’s eye view that overlooks a beautiful open area with a small mining camp located on the lower left corner. The second is a close up of the mining camp. Several white tents are seen with a man standing next to a small wood building in the distance. Both photos have slight wear on the edges. There are three stereoviews, two show scenes from Alaska and one unknown. The two from date from 1898 Alaska and show the outside of a miner’s cabin from the Klondike. The other is a street view of a bustling Anchorage, but is also listed in the description to be a scene from Norway. The unknown stereoview shows a man with a banjo signing to a dying miner and friend. All stereoviews are in good condition with little wear on the sides. Lastly there is an unused postcard showing a miner standing in front of his small makeshift home. Titled “A Western mining camp- home of a millionaire to be.” Slight wear on the corners with a small ink mark on the lower left corner.
