The hilt with characteristic brass mounts, the octagonal pommel canted at an obtuse angle, allowing the sword to be thrust as well as swung, and a small, angular guard with swollen quillon finials and profiled langets. The grip covered in a species of sharkskin with pronounced denticles, secured by three brass rivets. The fine, long blade of robust flattened-triangular section with pronounced back edge, wrought of fine black wootzdamascus steel with clear temperline visible thoughout, and retaining an extremely sharp cutting edge. Latter 17th century. Edge nicked. Such sabers were endemic to the Crimean Tatars, yet the form was popular among Russians and Poles as well. Overall length 94.9 cm. Condition II
