The hilt of typical form retaining substantial original gilding, the guard embellished with crowned VR monogram and folding counterguard, the grip covered in sharkskin with wire wrap. The lightly-curved, single-edged blade with fuller to either side with lengthy panels of foliate etching and the crowned VR monogram, marked at the left forte, MANTON & COMPANY/ LONDON/ CALCUTTA, the right forte with brass proof mark set within a six-pointed star. The brass field officer's scabbard with traces of gilding, the last third a working-life replacement, chape lacking. First half of the 19th century.Minor age darkening to blade.Overall length 97.7 cm. Condition IV
