1924 $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-65. Untoned, with the classic detail and glowing luster of a true Gem BU. The 1920s was a period of business activity unmatched in American history to that time. Large shipments of goods across the country and to every land across the sea called for huge transfers of gold money or gold deposits by importers. Hence, the need for this largest circulating denomination, the Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece. Even after the Great Depression was well underway in the 1930s, Europeans cashed in their stocks and bonds and took payment in the ubiquitous double eagles, many millions of which found their way to European bank vaults (PCGS # 9177) .
Estimated Value $1,900 - 2,000.
