1917 McKinley Gold Dollar (64257)
The McKinley gold dollar was produced to raise money for the construction of President McKinley's memorial in Niles, Ohio. He had been assassinated in 1901, only six months into his second term as president. Two years represent the series: 1916 and 1917. The 1916 issue has a recorded mintage of 15,000 pieces, whereas only 5,.000 gold dollars were struck in 1917. The 1917 example offered here is well circulated and has been cleaned. There's also a scratch on the obverse adjacent to McKinley's eye. Current CDN Greysheet bid is $430 in XF condition.
