<B>1909-D $5 MS65 NGC.</B></I> The 1909-D Indian Head half eagle is the most common issue of the series, and more than 35,000 pieces have received Mint State grades from NGC and PCGS. Most of those coins fall between MS61 and MS64, however. At the Gem level, this issue suddenly becomes relatively scarce, with approximately 130 pieces so graded, although that number is also rather high compared to the average Indian half eagle issue.<BR> The current offering is a lovely example with great luster and attractive, light peach-gold coloration. A heavy peripheral die break encircles each side, possibly an indication of die buckling, but all of the design elements are sharply delineated, including the mintmark.
