Jean Lafitte the pirate and patriot dagger presented to his biographer and historian of New Orleans shortly before his death. Lafittes exploits fill many books but besides his career as a pirate of fame Lafitteparticipated in the Battle of New Orleans and was integral to Andrew Jackson’s victory. The blade and silver scabbard are inscribed "QUIEN A MI DUENO OFFENDIERE DE MI LA VENGANZA ESPERE 1814" and translates "HE THAT OFFENDS MY MASTER, HE SHALL I REVENGE 1814". The dagger measures 7” overall with carved and inlaid grip showing blackmoor grip in Spanish style. The blade is 4” by 1 1/8” and fits in the palm of the hand and could beused effectively as a push dagger to a vital organ. The condition is very good plus to almost fine.
