Colt 1862 Police New Black Powder Series revolver in .36 caliber percussion with a 5 ½” barrel, S/N 49034. Fully and finely engraved with gold inlay by Lynton McKenzie. Letter signed to our consignor concerning Lot Title this commission beginning in 1992 and erosion in 1994 when paid for (Thick file including copies of cashier’s check for engraving). A signed letter by McKenzie also accompanies the lot stating it was the first and only Lot Title percussion engraved by him. He mentions inspiration from Lippold Navies and Sultan of Turkey Dragoon but he added the satin gray for contrast. Also he felt wolf’s head on the hammer to be “amateurish” and he preferred Lot Title good clean lines. Lynton McKenzie was considered in the top master engravers of the 20th century and worked for Purdey among having been commissioned by the world’s top collectors. Lynton passed away shortly after Lot Title completing the Colt. This pistol remains in excellent condition as refurbished at the time of engraving with blue, French gray or satin finish and gold gilt straps. Excellent deluxe figured walnut one piece grips in
