18BD-1 GUSTAV YOUNG ENGRAVED 1851 COLTColt 1851 Navy revolver in .36 caliber percussion, fully and deluxe engraved by Gustave Young with rare small iron guard and ivory grips, S/N 28306. This revolver shows British proofs and American (New York)address possibly for Crystal Palace Exhibition in London. The engraving is exceptional with detailed and more extensive treatment at the muzzle. Very extensive and fine engraving with dog head on the left side by the lug, hand cut Colt’s patent, and generally more elaborate and “Rich” than Young’s standard works. There are faint traces of blue and case colors with 50%-60% scene that is light. The grips are theoriginal ivory and fit impeccably. All matching visible numbers. Less than 6 small guard engraved Navies were recorded by Ed Prentis and Larry Price who were old Navy collectors.
