<B>1878-CC S$1 MS66 NGC.</B></I> David Bowers (1993) writes that: "Most 1878-CC dollars encountered in the numismatic marketplace are in Mint State,...are quite lustrous, and are extensively bagmarked." The Premium Gem specimen offered in this lot displays fully lustrous surfaces that are untoned except for whispers of lavender, golden-brown, and cobalt-blue patina that make occasional visits to some of the marginal areas. The strike is superb, resulting in crisp delineation in the hair around Liberty's ear and in the eagle's breast feathers. This example does not fit Bowers' profile with respect to being "extensively bagmarked" - indeed, the surfaces of this coin are remarkably clean and well preserved.
