1860 $5 Clark, Gruber & Co. Five Dollar MS64 PCGS. While the centers of this issue are usually found weakly struck, that is certainly not the case with this piece. On this coin, the design motifs are sharply defined throughout. This is especially notable on the hair of Liberty on the obverse, and the eagle's plumage and the shield lines on the reverse. It is highly unusual to locate any Clark, Gruber coin with mint luster, as these pieces were extensively circulated in Colorado in lieu of the uncertain value of the locally mined gold dust. However, on this piece the mint luster is inescapable and one of the dominant features. Another feature of note is the rich, original reddish-tinged gold color seen over each side. One of the finest preserved example of this important Territorial issue. Listed on page 366 of the 2008 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 64, 2 finer (7/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
