<B>1829 Broadside.</B></I> <B><I>Law of the Congreso General Granting to Juan Davis Bradvurn</B></I></B></I><B> [John Davis Bradburn] </B></I><B><I>the Exclusive Right to Navigate the Rio Grande</B></I></B></I><B> </B></I> by steam or horse powered vessels; approved by President Vicente Guerrero on May 9, 1829, and promulgated the same day by Jose Maria de Bocanegra.<I> </B></I>[Mexico] With heading: <I>Primera Secretaria de Estado. Departmento Del Interior. Seccion 1a., </B></I>May 9, 1829. 11.74" x 8.25". <BR><BR>Law of the Congreso General granting to "<I>Juan Davis Bradvurn</B></I>" (John Davis Bradburn) "<I>... exclusive privilege for the term of fifteen years to navigate the northern part of the Rio Grande by steam or horse-powered vessel, as long as there is verification within a period of two years, and the work is begun within six months of the date of this decree.</B></I>" Approved by President Vicente Guerrero on May 9, 1829, and promulgated the same day by Jose Maria de Bocanegra. Bocanegra's printed signature at end with his rubric. <BR><BR>At the time of this order, Bradburn was serving in the Mexican army as a lieutenant colonel and an aide to Iturbide. He survived the numerous political changes of the 1820s, and in 1830 was appointed commander of a new garrison on Galveston Bay to be named Anahuac - this order having been given in preparation for that garrison's construction. Less than two years later, Bradburn's actions at Anahuac would help to precipitate the Texas Revolution which led to the secession of Texas from Mexico and the formation of the Republic of Texas. Contemporary half-calf case with marbled boards, gilt lettering.
