A hunter's prize. A deergrazesout inthe open land as he sits. His antlers curl upwards. His body is smooth and lean. His legs curl beneath his warm body. He is a brown patina with gold details. His head snaps up as if hearing a subtle noise in the distance alerting him to incoming danger, the sound of a hunter's boot snapping a twig. This would make the perfect gift for any hunter, nature lover or country dweller. 100% bronze and handmade, this two-toned brown patina sculpture was cast using the "Lost Wax Method". It features the signature P.J. Mene. Pierre Jules Mne, (1810 -1879), was a French Sculptor and Animalire. He is considered to be the pioneer of animal sculpture in the nineteenth-century. Mne produced a number of animal sculptures, mainly of domestic animals like horses, cows and bulls, sheep, goats, etc., which were in vogue during the Second Empire. He was one of a "school of French animalires" which also included Pierre Louis Rouillard, Antoine-Louis Barye, Auguste Can, and Franois Pompon. Mne himself specialized in small bronze figures which explains why none of his works exist as public statuary. His work was a popular success with the bourgeois class and many editions of each sculpture were made, often to decorate the increasingly private homes of the period. Mne also seems to have enjoyed a longer period of success and celebrity than his contemporaries. He is considered to have been the Lost-wax casting expert of his time, later surpassed only by Auguste Rodin. Condition: This sculpture is in a very good condition.
